Aug 2009 - Popcorn DVD Chooser This is a little app I wrote to play full DVD's. Some people, including myself, like to backup their DVD discs. I will generally use the free version of DVD Fab to copy the whole DVD to a large hard drive, then put the actual DVD and case in storage so it doesn't get scratched. So each folder is the movie name, and inside that folder is the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. I do this because I don't want to lessen the quality or lose the extras and special features. This could mean over 8 gigs, but drive space is cheap these days. Anyway, this app will load up all of those movie folders, and display an image for each movie, if you placed one in. Double click, and it will load properly in VLC Media Player. As far as I know, it's the most streamlined solution to play a fully ripped DVD folder on your hard drive as if it were a normal DVD. It's largely based on some code from lifehacker. I cleaned it up a bit, added some error correction, etc. I have more ideas, but this suits me fine as is. Perhaps you'll find it useful too. It's a must have for anyone that rips full DVDs. Place the .exe your movie folder, on the same level as all the movie name folders. This will let it pick the correct default. Otherwise, right click and choose "Settings". |
